The Price to Pay

Woke up today with a twitch in my hand,
My phone's glued to me like a lifelong brand.
Check the screen – yeah, it's the first thing I do,
Before I even brush or tie my shoe.

Ding ding ding – there's a price to pay,
Another chunk of my mind gone astray.
Thumb's on fire, but I can't get free,
The scroll takes more than it gives to me.

Tweets and posts in a scrolling blur,
I’m locked in tight – no escape, sir!
Follow, like, and share it around,
I’m a slave to the digital sound.

Dopamine hits like cash from the sky,
Who needs truth when the likes fly high?
Perfect faces, perfect lives,
But it's all just filters, smoke, and lies.

Hey Zuckerberg! Hey Elon Musk!
You’ve made us addicts, it's no fuss.
You sell our souls, it’s all in play,
And trust me, mate, there’s a price to pay.

But hey, no sweat, I’m in the groove,
The feed, it flows – I barely move.
I’ve sold my time, I’ve lost my friends,
I’ll pay the cost till the bitter end.

Ding ding ding – the brain decays,
But I need the buzz, need my daily praise.
Can’t pull back – it’s too damn late,
The price is paid, sealed by fate.

A life spent scrolling, nothing to show,
Except the likes from people I don’t know.
The price? My time, my mind, my day.
And trust me, pal, there’s always a price to pay.

We’re all chasing shadows in the neon light,
Stacking up the paper just to feel alright.
Plastic smiles and empty hands,
Buying dreams they don’t understand.
Trained to buy, trained to shop,
Keep climbing higher but we never stop.
We’re sold the lie that more is life,
But the hunger only grows inside.
How much is enough when you can’t buy peace?
We’re prisoners in this endless feast.

In the madness of this race, we run,
Where the price tag shines brighter than the sun.
We’re lost in the maze, never satisfied,
Chasing highs that’ll never provide.
In the insanity of more and more,
We’ve forgotten what we’re searching for.
They paint perfection with every ad,
Telling us we’re nothing if we don’t have.
They feed the hunger, they plant the need,
A life of luxury is how they deceive.
Trained to buy, trained to shop,
They sell us the world, and we never stop.

We’re sold the dream of shiny things,
But the emptiness is all it brings.
Can’t fill the void with what we crave,
We’re all just spending our way to the grave.
In the madness of this race, we run,
Where the price tag shines brighter than the sun.
We’re lost in the maze, never satisfied,
Chasing highs that’ll never provide.
In the insanity of more and more,
We’ve forgotten what we’re searching for.

Marketing whispers, “You’re not enough,”
They make us weak and call it love.
Behind the screens, we lose our way,
Another dollar down, another soul to pay.
Trained to consume, our hearts are sold,
In a cycle that never grows old.
In the haze of greed, we stand alone,
A house full of things but never a home.
The price of freedom we can’t afford,
In the madness of consumer wars.
